I think too many women, especially mums, deride what they do as “just this” and “I just do that.”
But as Mother’s Day is just around the corner, I wanted to take part in this blogging tag on how I’m Rocking Motherhood. Let’s celebrate, collaborate and shout about our achievements whether that be as a home maker or having a successful career (or both) or just being bloody amazing at life.

Here are my ten ways I’m Rocking Motherhood:
1. I smile through the rage: My daughters can push my buttons but even when I’m angry I end up laughing or smiling as that’s the natural disposition for my face. I have a resting clown face rather than a bitch face.
2. I don’t have time to do my hair or put on make up unless it’s for a special occasion but this means that when I do make an effort people congratulate me. So I get adulation for being lazy with my looks.
3. Which brings me on to the fact I live in my gym kit/sportswear. Yes I look chavvy and unprofessional but this means I can exercise anywhere and everywhere at any time. And it means that I’m not showing my knickers crawling through a soft play centre and, if we’re inevitably late, I literally have my running shoes on. There’s no tottering in heels breaking my ankle or worst still damaging my Jimmy Choos.
4. My house is always a mess: No matter how often I Hoover or try to tidy, our home is always a mess… but this means that our children are free to play, create, eat, explore and essentially make a mess. And I love it if I go to other people’s homes that are messy. I’m always suspicious of a house is spotless (and a teeny weeny bit jealous).
5. I’m self-employed: I work freelance as a journalist/columnist, I co-run Evoke Media Group a film & PR company as well as, running this blog & vlog, I also teach and perform bellydance. But my main job is being a mum. I’m not great at it but I’m getting there and I’ve sacrificed a lot to try to be better, such as giving up my dream job at BBC.
6. We live for the week and the weekend: I don’t believe in “living for the weekend.” Enjoy your life now! And if you’re not enjoying it, change it.
7. I travel a lot on my own with the kids. People always say they “admire” me (or think I’m stupid) for going on trips with the kids on my own, especially as I’ll either walk/run or use public transport to get around. But I think kids are a lot more durable than we take them for. My husband and I also don’t stick to your usual package holidays as we like a bit of adventure as a family.
8. We go to lots of playgroups and activities such as football, gymnastics and music. But I do try to stop myself being pushy and living vicariously through the Kids. But my natural instinct is to be a Dance Mom!
9. I’ve learnt first aid and keep refreshing my knowledge as you never think the worst thing will happen to you… And then it does.[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYbyzmVdaCk]
10. I’m a campaigner for Attachment Parenting, Mental Health, LGBT issues and women’s rights to name but a few. I want my kids to grow up with a strong sense of social justice and to have equal rights.[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nTPgYcPyyY]
