WHAT MENTAL ILLNESS REALLY LOOKS LIKE

One in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives.

Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide,” according to the World Health Organisation.

So it’s likely that if you’re reading this that you or a loved one will be experiencing a mental health problem. Please go to our mental health help page if you’re searching for professional support.

Hopefully, this page will assist your understanding or at the very least make you feel less alone. From blogs on how to care for someone with a mental illness to answers from professionals on popular topics such as “Can an employer ask about your mental health” or “can I take a mental health day off work” to discovering recommendations on the best mental health apps, self-care boxes and podcasts. As well as your stories and my story.

I know myself as someone who suffers from severe Anxiety, Depression and previously Psychosis and an Eating Disorder that too often we hear about mental health without truly understanding the impact mental illness has on a person and/or carer’s life.

I would love to hear your experiences too… you can chat to me on social media @SophieMeiLan or if you want to feature on the blog, please contact me here.
